We are home!

We were discharged from the hospital today around 6:00 PM and got home around 6:30. It is nice to finally have our family together at home.

Our first night with the babies at the hospital went fine. The babies make a lot of noise that we couldn't hear over the alarms and other noise in the NICU. They are quieter when the lights are on. They haven't been in a room with the lights off for their entire lives, so it will take some getting used to.

The plan was for us to be out before lunch time but while they were processing Ben's paperwork and doing his final checkup they noticed the nurse that did his second car seat test (which he passed again) had deleted the data they recorded, so they had to do a third test. We waited for an hour or so and they came back and said he failed the test because he was too small to fit into the seat. They told us we needed to go buy a new car seat and to pick one up for his sister too because she is probably too small as well. She had passed her first car seat test with no problem a couple days ago.

The new car seats worked fine for Evelyn's second car seat test and Ben's fourth. They added an extra hour to Ben's test because of a concern about his oxygen saturation level. We took out our old car seat bases, installed the new ones and were ready to go after the doctor signed some papers, the nurse practitioner came in to tell us about the papers, and the nurse brought us the papers.

  2. Hooray! Finally made it home!! They will adjust to the sounds of home very quickly and probably rest better without all the bells and buzzers going off all the time. Enjoy every wonderful minute with these angels, they grow up so quickly. Now you can all get the rest you deserve.

  4. I am glad that you are more patient than I am, somebody's head would be a platter right now with all that testing of Ben and stuff about the car seat (which they sell preemie pads for, but why would they tell you that?)

Ugh...it's over and that great because my sweet niece and nephew are home. Hooray!
